DISSENY HUB BARCELONA

BUILDING

The museum is located in the Disseny Hub Barcelona building in Plaça de les Glòries, designed by the MBM architectural team (Martorell, Bohigas, Mackay, Capdevila, and Gual). It was specifically designed to preserve, exhibit, and disseminate the city’s collections, a great heritage.

The Museu del Disseny de Barcelona is the museum of the arts of the object and design, a result of the integration of the collections of the Museu de les Arts Decoratives, el Museu de Ceràmica, el Museu Tèxtil i d’Indumentària i el Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques of the city. In other words, the common denominator of all collections, from yesterday to today, is the object and everything it represents, has meant, and contributed: from its conception, creation, and production to its use over time and in society, both in the artisanal and pre-industrial stage as well as in the industrial or digital era.

The museum preserves a collection of over 70,000 objects traditionally classified under the categories of decorative arts or applied arts, spanning from the 4th century BC to the present day, with unique collections of international significance, such as medieval textiles, enameled Catalan glass from the 16th century, and Alcora ceramics, among others.
